Employing red mud as a flux in smelting of copper concentrate of a laboratory scale and investigating the influences of sodium oxide and alumina in slag for slag loss and viscosity, obtained following results:
(1) When employed 5% lime and about 10% red mud for copper concentrate as a flux, Cu-conteut in the slag was about 0.1%.
(2) Substituting ferrous oxide in slag with sodium oxide or alumina, Cu-content in slag decreased in each case.
(3) Increasing of sodium oxide in slag decreases viscosity of slag; while increasing of alumina in slag increased it.
