Chloride volatilization of impurities in pyrite cinder by using heavy oil was performed in a pilot rotary kiln. Based on the results of laboratory scale experiments, 300kg /h capacity rotary kiln was prepared, whose inner diameter was 600mm and the length was 6, 100mm. This kiln was equipped with a high-pressure burner of heavy oil and the firing temperature was controlled.
Under the optimum conditions, the content of nonferrous metals in the calcined pellet was: 0.03%> Cu, 0.02%>Zn, 0.03%>S and 60%<Fe. Physical properties of the pellet was: 300kg/pellet<crushing strength, 17-22% porosity and about 80% reducibility.
