Raw materials which are treated in a mineral processing plant, are usually crushed and classified, then become fine particles contained water. These wet fine particles are troublesome for handling. This reports is investigated the characteristics of these fine wet particles.
Fine particles have enormous surface energy, so characteristics are effected by surface energy. The bulk density of sediment, the Zeta potential of a solid particle and the shear strength of sediment are measured.
As Zeta potentials approach to zero, bulk densities decrease and shear strengths increase. The bonding force calculated by Rumpf's equation at a contact point of particles also increases with the decrease of Zeta potentials.
The structure of sediment depends upon the electric surface potential of solid and the width of diffused electrical double layer at solid-water interface.
