Behavior of Grinding Media in Sand Mill (I)

Abstract

Flow pattern, velocity distribution and rotation of grinding media in a two-dimensional model of mill equipped with a concentric disc or with a eccentric disc are observed and measured by use of videocamera.
The flow direction of the media in the mill equipped with the concentric disc is mainly tangential and the tangential velocity of the media is large. However, the media flow tangentially and radially in the mill equipped with the eccentric disc. The media rotate in various directions along the periphery of the disc and at the neighborhood of the minimum clearance between the disc and the mill wall.
