A Case of Highly Myopic Strabismus Without Limited Eye Movement: Six-year Follow Up After Unilateral Superior Rectus and Lateral Rectus Muscle Bellies Union Surgery

Abstract

　Here, we have described a case of a patient with highly myopic strabismus without limited eye movement who was followed up for 6 years after unilateral superior rectus and lateral rectus muscle bellies union surgery. A 64-year-old woman with severe myopia in both eyes had a complaint of horizontal diplopia. She had esotropia without limited eye movement. Magnetic resonance imaging revealed dislocation of the eyeball from the muscle cone in both eyes. Superior rectus and lateral rectus muscle bellies union surgery was performed for the right eye with greater dislocation. After the surgery, her esotropia resolved; however, she developed hypertropia of the right eye, which was resolved after another surgery. Five years after the superior rectus and lateral rectus muscle bellies union surgery, the horizontal diplopia mildly worsened. After wearing prism in glasses, the horizontal diplopia disappeared. In this case report, we have discussed a strategy for the treatment of highly myopic strabismus without limited eye movement based on our experience and previous reports.
