Abstract
We reported in the Bulletin 2009 about the impression of GM crops for our students.
In this article, the students imaged GM crops that should be denied generally. They got the knowledge of GM crops from TV news or newspapers. They did not actively collect the information. Ten years after the previous report, 26 countries around the world grow GM crops. In Japan, the handling guidelines on food hygiene for“foods and additives applied with genome editing technology”have been formulate and started handling in October 2019. In this study, we conducted a questionnaire survey on genome-edited foods in addition to the contents of the previous survey. As a result, our college students distributed the term genetic modification into three categories: positive, neither, or negative. However, the majority of students answered that genetically modified technology was a useful technology, and only a few responded that they did not need GM crops. Most students answered they had never heard of genome-edited foods.
