The purpose of the present study was to examine typical female junior college student perceptions of various sports. Investigations were carried out by employing both the SD-method and factor analysis. The results were as follows : 1) No significant differences regarding the perceptions of various sports were observed between students who previously belonged to an organized athletic club and those who did not. 2) Factor analysis demonstrated that students could be divided into two groups : Group A associated sports with the use of a ball, for example volleyball, soccer, basketball, etc. Group B associated sports with the need for some other type of equipment, for example badminton, ping-pong and tennis.
