study was developed to establish the complete automatic control system on the whole process of caustic--soda industry. In view of the importance of pH control there, automatic pH control of the brine to be sent to the electrolytic cell was designed and practiced first of all. The theory of automatic control has been widely investigated so far and as its result, is acknowledged to be indispen-sable for general design of process control system. But the procedures to apply this theory to practical use are extremely difficult and therefore have seldom been announced yet. Under such circumstances, the writers dared to apply this theoretical treatment to the design of pH control system and consequently confirmed it useful. This article describes such procedures in broad outline.
