This paper reports a method of calculation for both frequency and transient responses and parameter sensitivities of a linear control system. In this method, the tables of input data can be made up in a simple manner as soon as the block diagram of the control system is given. This method will be useful in analysing and synthesizing linear multi-variable control systems, regardless of their types.
Although many papers have been hitherto published on such a method of analysing control systems with the input data (tables), most of them are concerned with the calculation of transient responses using the Runge-Kutta method 1)-4). The author's method is similar to that reported in reference 5), wherein the relation of input and output signals is represented by a matrix form at the start. The frequency responses are evaluated by solving the matrix equation and then the transient responses are calculated by an inverse Fourier transformation. In order to keep accuracy of results in that transformation, the author approximated the real parts of frequency responses Re[X(jω)] by a suitable number of quadratic curves.
And also, the author reports a method in which the parameter sensitivities of transmittance ∂lnT/∂lnα and ∂T/∂lnα are evaluated in the frequency domain by a matrix calculation, and then ∂x(t)/∂lnα in the time domain by an inverse Fourier transformation of ∂T/∂lnα.
The result of calculation in analysing the system controlling the longitudinal motion of a fully submerged hydrofoil craft is shown as an example.
