There are many papers concerning optimization of dynamic processes, however there are a few papers on static optimization.
This paper is the one of the latter. Many practical speed control systems have been designed and utilized so far.
However, almost all of these systems have been designed without taking the efficiency of the prime mover into consideration. Needless to say, it is evident that the efficiency of the prime mover cannot be ignored, if the power consumed in the load is large.
The results of theoretical and experimental researches on a special speed control system of a rotating load driven by a D. C. motor as a prime mover are presented in this paper.
In this system, unlike conventional speed control systems, the operating conditions of the prime mover are controlled so as to keep its highest efficiency.
The results obtained are almost satisfactory for practical use. It is expected that this system may be available to vehicle speed control systems subject to a few modifications.
