Abstract
Control problems have been experienced with FOPTD-based tuning methods when the normalized dead time is small. To overcome these it has been proposed to instead use an IPDT model for controller tuning. This work investigates, for the gain and phase margin approach, how to choose between using either FOPTD-based or IPDT-based PI control.
