By varying the right pump speed in a continuous flow artificial heart system connected to the cardiovascular system of a mature goat, the dynamic response of left atrial pressure was observed and conditions that resulted in atrial suction were simulated. The results may be used to design a new mock circulatory system and better control algorithms to prevent atrial suction.
