Abstract
The present status of an alien raccoon, Procyon lotor on Shikoku Island, southern Japan was investigated by means of questionnaire survey, auto-photography and examination of carcasses obtained during the survey. The result showed that P. lotor already settled in Shikoku. This species seemed abundant on eastern district of Kagawa Prefecture, and ranged southerly to the Yoshino River in northern Tokushima Prefecture, adjacent to Kagawa Prefecture. No reliable information on the occurrence of P. lotor in the wild was obtained from Ehime (western Shikoku) and Kochi (southern Shikoku) Prefectures.
