Pellets of Long-eared Owls,
Asio otus, were collected wintering in a riparian zone on the Monobe River, Kochi Prefecture, on 21 January and February 20, 2022. The bones of 11

Apodemus speciosus, 1
Rattus norvegicus, and 15 birds were found in the pellets. Prey animal proportion was characterized by a high proportion of birds with mammals (rodents) accounting for 51.6% and birds for 48.4%. This seems to support the existence of adaptability of Long-eared Owls, which flexibly changes its prey animals in response to environmental conditions.
