Abstract

A 77-year-old woman with a subcutaneous soft tumor in the left waist, accompanied by pain since her first visit one year previously, was initially suspected of the epidermal cyst, and a complete excision was performed. Pathological results indicated spindle cell tumor with the possibility of malignancy. She was referred to our hospital for further evaluation. Pathological examination showed the proliferation of spindle-shaped cells with atypia and abundant collagen fibers extending from the dermis to the adipose tissue. S-100 was positive, while Melan A, HMB-45, and CD 34 were negative. The possibility of desmoplastic melanoma may be a differential diagnosis. However, knowing the low positivity of Ki-67, neurofibroma was considered. There has been no recurrence during 5 months postoperatively.[Skin Cancer (Japan) 2023 ; 38 : 195-198]
