Abstract
Our patient is a 33-year-old male who had developed an asymptomatic irregular granulation tissuelike nodule on his umbilicus. He had noticed it for only 1 year and its size increased slowly. An MRI ruled out urachal remnant. An excisional biopsy was performed and it was diagnosed as malignant melanoma. Left axillary lymphadenopathy was noted. Wide local excision and left axillary lymph node dissection were performed after 3 weeks. In addition, metastasis of the right axillary and right inguinal lymph nodes were diagnosed by sentinel lymph node biopsy. As a result, right axillary and right inguinal lymph node dissection were performed followed by five courses of chemotherapy with DAV-feron. However lumbar vertebrae metastasis became evident. He died 26 months postoperatively due to lymphangitic carcinomatosis. [Skin Cancer (Japan) 2006; 21: 164-167]
