Abstract
A 37-year-old female with dermatofibrosarcoma protuberans (DFSP), which recurred 10 years after the first operation, is reported. The primary lesion on the abdomen had been excised 10 years earlier in 1994. In November 2004 local recurrence was noted and wide resection was performed. Histologically, the tumor cell was composed of spindle cells with atypical nuclei in storiform pattern. Immunohistological analysis showed that the tumor cells were partially positive for CD34.
Wide resection was performed; no recurrence was noted after a two-year follow up. We suggest that in the management of DFSP, it is necessary to follow up carefully for ten years. [Skin Cancer (Japan) 2006; 21: 168-171]
