Abstract
The 52 patients with senile asteatosis (average 71.5 years old) and 13 cases with atopic dermatitis (average 8.5 years old) were subjected to bathing with the CO2bath tablets (a 50g tablet) containing oily moisturizing substances such as cholesteryl isostearate, 1-isostearoyl-3-myristoyl-glycerol, hexadecyl 2-ethylhexanoate and petrolatum, and with the plain CO2bath tablets as control. Each tablet was dissolved in about 150 L bath water before bathing. The moisturizing bath was taken for 4 weeks, then control bath was taken for another 4 weeks, and the changes of the skin signs were evaluated by optical observation before and after each 4 weeks treatment. In the case of the senile asteatosis, the stronger effect of the moisturizing bath compared to the control bath was ascertained statistically (χ2; p<0.01), whereas the difference was insignificant in the case of atopic dermatitis.
Moisturizing bath has benefitical effects on the dry skin such as asteatosis and atopic dermatitis.
