This study aimed to evaluate the prevalence of impacted teeth and treatment outcomes, highlighting on impacted maxillary canines and their influence on adjacent tooth structures. A retrospective analysis of the data of 318 patients presenting with impacted teeth or delayed eruption was conducted. Impaction location and frequency were recorded. Considering the adequate number of cases, impacted maxillary canines were further investigated to assess root resorption in adjacent teeth. Treatment modalities, including surgical exposure and orthodontic traction, were reviewed, and outcomes were evaluated. Impacted teeth were slightly more prevalent in females. The most frequently impacted teeth were maxillary canines (51.4%). Surgical exposure combined with orthodontic traction constituted the primary treatment approach and generally yielded favorable outcomes. Impacted canines accounted for approximately 50% of all impactions, with 32.2% of patients exhibiting root resorption in adjacent teeth. Patients with teeth classified as sector 4, the most mesially positioned impacted canines on panoramic radiographs, exhibited more severe pathology, with evident delayed detection. Orthodontic traction was successful in 86.5% of impacted teeth, whereas 6.3% of impacted maxillary canines exhibited suspected ankylosis. Compared with those reported in previous studies, higher rates of ankylosis and root resorption were observed, potentially reflecting the inclusion of patients with more severe presentations. Therefore, early detection and prompt intervention are crucial for the effective management of impacted maxillary canines, as early treatment can minimize complications, including ankylosis and root resorption.
