Abstract
The purpose of this study was to investigate the influence of several testing conditions on temporal and distance factors of normal gait obtained from the forceplate data. Two hundred fifty two apparently healthy subject between 22 and 79 years of age participated in this study. Subjects walked repeatedly over 3.6 meter forceplates at six different conditions, accumlating ten quasi-steady state steps data of both sides. The tesing conditions were l) at customary speed without any restraint 2) at customary speed 3) at slow speed 4) at high speed 5) at possible narrow step width 6) at stepping over 5 cm high obstacles. In conditions 2) to 4), subjects were asked to step right and left feet separately on respective forceplates. The mean of all subjects about individual mean of ten steps ranged 0.9 to I .O in conditions l), 2), 4) and 6) concerning the ratio of cadence to *~tride length. The mean of all subjects about individual coefficient of variance of cycle time of ten steps were mininum in all 6 conditions. On the other hand, relatively little variation among testing condition was found concerning the average of ratio of stance time, swing time, double support time to cycle time and ratio of right stance time to left stance time. Thease results are expected to be used as a standard when pathological data are compaired with normal healthy data.
