Do Diversity Departments in Japan Increase Female Managers?

Abstract

This paper examines whether diversity departments and offices increase female managers in large Japanese firms. According to quantitative analyses of firm-level panel data, establishing diversity departments did not improve the proportion of women in management, considering the time trend. However, for companies with a higher proportion of female executives, establishing these departments did increase gender diversity in management.
