Abstract
EVMS (Earned Value Management System) is known as a powerful performance measurement tool to manage a project. It is good and clear at Cost management but something vague in Duration management. SPI (Schedule Performance Index) in EVMS is an index telling the achieved ratio against scheduled quantity. It doesn't say about Duration. For project management, the duration is one of the key success factor and also is a key risk management item that must be controlled. This Paper introduces DPI (Duration Performance Index), EDAC (Estimate Duration At Complete) and DV (Duration Variance) for project duration management. DPI is defined as SPI on the Critical Path of the project. EDAC is calculated by using DPI and it indicates the estimated duration required to complete the project. DV is the duration difference between Planed and Estimated. For duration contingency reserve, analogous to the management reserve in the cost management, Total Float and Free Float are identified as the network duration reserve. Overtime and Saturday, Sunday, National holidays are identified as costed duration reserve. Also additional assignment of the manpower is identified as costed duration reserve. To manage duration risks, DV is compared with these duration reserves.
