Abstract
The government announced the restriction of electricity usage based on the Electricity Business Law's Article 27 in May 2011. as the measures of predicted electricity shortages by the impact of the great east Japan earthquake. The government requested major companies to cope with the possibility of risk which demands to reduce power consumption by 15% and to enforce rolling blackouts by the summer 2011. We needed to solve this challenge which could have a big impact on business of the data center which offers continuity service. In order to solve the challenge. We launched a project preparing the -following key plans. The first was the communication plan for the stakeholders to be able to early ensure the scheme for the electricity usage reduction. The second was the application plan for the visualization system of the amount of electricity used to achieve the reduction target. The third was the contingency plan for the rolling power cut and the sudden blackout accompanying the announcement of tightness of the electricity demand alarm. The project was completed achieving the reduction target of the restriction of electricity use and keeping the service quality level of data center high. This paper reports the preventive measures that we introduced for the risk reduction and the lessons learned from its introduction.
