Abstract
PMBOK Guide is the project management framework based on a collection of good project management practices, Most of the practices are derived from organizational and business practices in the western culture, especially in American culture. There are some differences between Japanese organization culture and that of American, which needs to be taken accounts when adapting the PMBOK Guide into a project in Japan. The authors jointly with 9 PMI Japan chapter members has been discussing this issue over 2 years, decided to put our findings into a book. The book was published in January 2012 under the title of "Hints on adaptation of PMBOK Guide". In this book we have clarified some of organizational and culture differences between Japan and America which affect project management practices. Having defined the differences, this paper proposes the hints on effective adaptation of PMBOK Guide into a project in Japan.
