Abstract
Today, offshore development is an option that any development project should consider, to reduce development cost. The author resided in China at Fujitsu Xian for three years and took charge of more than 30 SI projects as an offshore member. After returning to Japan, he has been involved in offshore development projects with China and India as a client side member. He had experienced many troubles in both standpoints. Most of the troubles were caused by inadequate design documents. However, the documents, which are the key to communication with offshore, rarely have been re-examined. Rather than that, if roles on Japan and an offshore side are clarified on the contract, and excellent bridge SE is put in the project, the client side is relieved. The client side does not notice the inadequateness of design documents. This paper introduces five measures to standardize and control documents. Either of the measures is basic but often disregarded. Taking these measures will help improve the efficiency of offshore / distributed development projects.
