Abstract

Pyrochlore Ce2Zr2O7 was found in the experiment which changed Ce for Ba in BaZrO3 in 1955. The pyrochlore structure is a reduced structure in which all Ce ions have triply oxidized state. κCe2Zr2O8 was found in 1995, which is an oxidized structure in which all Ce ions is in the oxidation state +4. These cation ordered structure, pyrochlore and κ phases ceria zirconia complex oxide have extremely high oxygen storage and release rate comparing to CeZrO2 with cation-random arrangement structure. This review shows the history of discovery and recent application of them.
