In the case of the discharge of granular materials from a storage vessel through the efflux tube, their flow rates depend upon the dimensions and shapes of efflux tubes. In this paper the effects of the diameter, the length and the angle of the efflux tubes on the frow rate of particles are investigated.
The apparatus used in this experiment consists of a cylindrical bin of 150mm in diameter and 210mm in height as the storage vessel and a brass tube with a specified diameter as the efflux tube. Glass beads with various diameters are used as granular materials.
The flow rate increases as the increase of the length and the diameter of the tube and also increases for the larger pipe angle and the smaller particle size. The relations among these factors and the pressures of fluid before and after the pipe inlet are expressed by Equation (6).
