In the first report of this research work, the performing characteristics of zig-zag type and vertical type classifiers were compared for developing the large throughput air classifier, and it was found that the classifying characteristics of former type was far better than that of the latter.
Assuming that the effective dispersion of agglomerated particles by the collision with the obstacles plays an important role on the performance of air classifier, we have developed a new type air classifier, named “Cascade type classifier”, which have zig-zag shape cascades of screens having suitable mesh inside a vertical type classifier.
The experimental results showed that the sharpness of classification by this classifier was far better than that of the zig-zag type classifier when the mixing ratio is larger than 6.3.
