Abstract
Monte Carlo simulation of agglomeration in liquid suspension was made by a two-dimensional random walk model. Initially, arbitrary numbers of uniform discs, the diameter of which was unity, were randomly dispersed on a plane. Subsequently, each particle was moved in one direction of the six, which was determined by a pseudo-random number generated by a computer. When a moving particle came in contact with another particle, a pseudo-random number was generated again, which was compared with the probability coefficient of aggregation (P) to determine whether aggregation could occur or not. Such a procedure was taken on each particle and the new locations of these were determined, After that, the number of agglomerates present in the plane was calculated. The decrease in number of agglomerates during the process agreed with the second order rate equation. Change in shape, bulkiness and anisometry of agglomerates with time were also examined.
