Abstract
In recent years, a large guantity of granular materials such as coal is storaged in the form of outdoor piling in Japan. Therefore, the development of a method to prevent or reduced their scattering due to wind is required.
In this study, the air velocity distributions around model heaps of several types and the amount of the scattered particles from various parts of the heap are investigated using granulated palmetto charcoal as the test material.
It is shown, both experimentally and theoretically, that the air velocity takes the maximum value at the edye of the upstream side, from where the air flow scatters the particles most intensively.
In conclusion, it is found that the pedestal form of the heap with the low height is the most favorable to minimize the scattering and that the spraying of pure water of a mass of 2l/m2 or 0.3% Coal dust control agent aqueous solution at a mass of 0.75l/m2 onto the edge of the heap is effective in preventing scattering.
