Abstract
The control characteristics of the solid temperature of a batch fluidized bed dryer that is being dried are investigated. The controller is designed based on well known PID control, the deadbeat control formula or EMRAC. PID control parameters are determined by applying the Zieglar-Nichols loop tuning method. In designing the deadbeat controller, the pulse transfer function of plant is estimated from the step response. Unknown system parameters in EMRAC are estimated by adapting the reference model.
Solid temperature is kept constant through the entire period of drying (constant and falling rate period) by applying the EMRAC control system. The feasibility of this new drying technique for avoiding the thermal denaturation of foods may be shown by this method.
