Abstract
After reaching gravitational drainage equilibrium, a constant water level was suddenly established at the so called “height of saturation” from the bottom of a sand bed, and the capillary suction pressure inside the bed and the liquid volume suctioned were measured during imbibition.
The numerical solutions of Richards' nonlinear, partial, differential equation with the corresponding boundary conditions compared very favourably with the experimental results.
