Abstract

Fly ash was processed on a dry shaking table as a trial in order to remove unburned carbon from fly ash. Experiments were carried out with varying operating variables, such as table tilt, frequency of table stroke and feed rate of fly ash. The dispersion state of fly ash on the table was dependent on the operating conditions, and the experimental results were not satisfactory when fly ash resided in a narrow region on the table. However, when the fly ash was dispersed widely on the table, fly ash with more desirable less unburned carbon was segregated from the that with more unburned carbon. They were recovered separately from different discharge zones on the table. It was also found that for the separation of unburned carbon from fly ash, a dry shaking table was less affected by particle size distribution than a fluidized bed with tapping.
