Abstract
It is desirable to apply plug-phase conveying to many kinds of bulk solids. In this paper, plug-phase conveying tests of irregularly shaped and flaky particles were carried out by making use of a practical scale line 50A pipe the max. length of which was 90m. Then, the permeabilty and blowing-off characteristics of plugs composed of various particle sizes and shapes were also examined in relationship to plug-phase conveyability.
It was found that plug-phase conveyability is apt to decrease upon exceeding a certain value of the plug's permeability coefficient, C, min. fluidization velocity, Vmf, and blowing-off velocity, VB. It is possibile to judge plug-phase conveying mainly by the blowing-off characteristics of the plug.
