Abstract
A system for evaluating fractal dimension of particle shape was designed using a widely used instrument. The fractal dimension varies according to the manufacturing process of particle. The fractal dimension is independent of particle size and macroscopic shape, and it reflects microscopic surface roughness of particles. In the present experiment, the fractal dimensions and angle of repose were measured for three kind of copper powders manufactured with different processes; gas-atomization, water-atomization and comunition Natural silica sand and the crushed one were also measured. Experimental results showed that there is an adequated correlation between the fractal dimension and the angle of repose, i. e., the fractal dimension increased with the angle of reposes.
