Abstract

This article reviews the advanced measurement methods for particle size distribution in gas- particle flow by use of backward sampling. These methods utilize the classification effect during the backward sampling, in which the inlet of sampling probe is faced downstream to the main flow. Fine particles of less than few microns are selectively aspirated into the sampling probe during the backward sampling. The classification effect and the procedure to measure particle size distribution are summarized. This review also presents the application results of these methods for the particle size distribution measurements of dusts generated in a pulverized coal combustion test furnace.
