Abstract
Fabrication of one-dimensional structures of functional materials has been a subject of intensive research due to their unique property and potential applications. Consequently, several forms of one-dimensional nanostructures such as wire, rod, tube, ribbon and ring have been prepared from various materials. Among several fabrication methods, electrospinning seems to be the simplest, versatile and promising solution. The history and mechanism of electrospinning are reviewed in this paper. And the preparation of silica and titania/silica hybrid fibers via electrospinning is described as the example.
