We examined the impact of 2022 FIFA World Cup on national identity among Japanese people. Seven-hundred ninety five Japanese participated in web survey before and after World Cup. Participants completed some scales regarding national identity before and after World Cup. In addition, they responded to the scales regarding media use after World Cup. We found that some dimensions of national identity changed before and after World Cup. Television uses increased patriotism, nationalism, and national pride while Internet use increased purism and ethnocentrism. Watching Janan national team games increased patriotism and nationalism. Watching news and informaton programs increased nationalism and nativeism. Using Internet to communication others increased purism and perception of threat, and decreased national pride. These results were discussed comparing to those of previous research.
