In this study, based on the results of a questionnaire survey conducted in 2020 by local governments regarding their open data initiatives, we analyzed the status of open data disclosure in each field by municipality and prefecture and point distribution to clarify the status of open data disclosure in various fields throughout Japan, not only open data for facilities. (1) The most common field was disaster prevention, accounting for 15% of all open data. About 70% of the municipalities that had released open data had also released open data on disaster prevention. (2) The second and lower ranking fields were statistics (14%), facilities (12%), and medical and welfare (8%). The top four open data fields alone accounted for 50% of the total number of open data. (3) Point distribution analysis of the disaster prevention field showed that disaster prevention open data was evenly distributed throughout Japan. Map open data was more common in the three metropolitan areas of Tokyo, Chubu, and Kansai, as well as in the northern Kyushu and Hokuriku regions, similar to the trend of open data with public access. The same regional trend was observed for budget and account open data, but the large number of 15 cases in Okayama Prefecture was characteristic.
