In infrared reflection absorption spectroscopy (IRRAS), metal or buried metal substrates in different sizes can be used for detection of biomaterials for which attenuated total reflection infrared spectroscopy (ATR-IR) can not be applied. However, the gap between the prism and the substrate surface is the main difficult technical point in this IRRAS system.
