Abstract
Striped nanostructures are observed in both the hexagonal FeN monoatomic layer grown on the Cu (001) substrate and the tetragonal Fe2N monoatomic layer grown on the Cu (111) substrate. The hexagonal FeN monoatomic layer has alternating two areas with and without lattice distortion, and the height is modulated in the tetragonal Fe2N monoatomic layer. Periodic spatial modulations of the local density of states dependent on the stripe structures were observed by scanning tunneling spectroscopy. Discussion will be given on the relationship between the lattice distortion and electronic state change.
