We carried out clinical and statistical observations and treatment of 106 cases of external dental fistula in the Department of Oral Surgery, Kurmume University during the past 19 years and 9 months (1969, 4-1988, 12).
Results obtained were as follows:
1) External dental fistula total was 106 cases. The distribution among 49846 outpatients was 0.21% during 19 years and 9 months.
2) 106 patients were composed of 57 males and 49 females. As to the age of patients, the 1 st decade and 5 th decades were more frequently seen.
3) Cheek area (44.7%) was the commonest site of external dental fistula.
4) The pathogenic teeth were observed more in the mandibular region than in maxillary region, especially frequently in the mandibular molars and canines.
5) In the treatment of pathogenic teeth, most cases were treated through surgery, but 19 recent cases were treated through endodontics.
