Pemphigus vulgaris is an autoimmune disease of the skin and mucous membrane caused by autoantibodies against desmoglein. We report herein on a case of pemphigus vulgaris diagnosed from stomatitis. A 48-year-old woman was admitted to our hospital, presenting with stomatitis. This patient had received a diagnosis diagnosed of suspected Sjogren`s syndrome and had been treated with prednisolone for a year when she was 27 years old. Although her status thereafter was stable, after becoming 48 years old, the stomatitis recurred. The clinical symptoms, the pathology organization, and the blood chemistry result all met the diagnostic criteria for pemphigus, and she was diagnosed it as having pemphigus vulgaris. The disease condition is became mild when steroid administration was started. Patients with pemphigus vulgaris tend to consult an otolaryngologist first. For clinicians responsible for making the diagnosis of intractable stomatitis, it is important to bear this disease in mind.
