Steel makers have developed a new class of prestressing strands with 15% higher tensile strength than conventional products in terms of both yield strength and tensile strength in 1S21.8. The development of ultra-high strength prestressing strands (USP) increases freedom in the PC cable arrangement, and when used in combination with high strength concrete, USP are expected to result in higher performance in PC structures, and particularly in pretensioned members. In this research, an experimental investigation of the applicability issues is conducted by performing prestressing tests and bending loading tests with PC beams using USP of 1S21.8. As a result, though consideration in design becomes necessary by the computation of the bond-transfer-length and the investigation of the ultimate state, it has been proved that USP of 1S21.8 can be used for pretensioned members.
