In tapered wooden beams, stress distribution on taper edge is most important in structure, and it has been calculated by the elementary beam theory. In recent years, it was reported that the solution obtained from the elementary beam theory does not coincide with experiments, while stress function method was proposed as optimal method corresponding to the experiments. Since FEM analysis is one of the useful technologies for timber bridges, it is necessary to accumulate many data and know-how. Thus, in this study, we analyzed tapered wooden beam by three-dimensional FEM analysis, and compared with the elementary beam theory. In addition, we simulated a number of past experiments by FEM, and compared them with stress function method.
