In Japan, some aged steel railway bridges have deterioration issues such as corrosion, fatigue crack and so on. This paper focuses on the case that a bridge has cover plates, and the cover plates are corroded deeply and need replacing with new ones. In this paper, FEM analysis is carried out to clarify the mechanical behavior of an I-girder bridge during site works of replacing the cover plates. Removing cover plates of one side makes stress and gap of deflections of main girders lager with torsional deformation of whole of the structure. It was cleared that the installation of lateral bracings to make the approximately closed cross section decreases the stress, the deflection and the torsional deformation. And also, an additional cross beam in a skew bridge makes the responses small.
