In this research, time-dependent behavior of a long span severely cracked RC box girder loaded at 3 days was investigated by comparing flexural crack width obtained by numerical simulation and crack width observed in the actual girder. The authors proposed the way to calculate shrinkage of concrete between flexural cracks both for young age RC member and for sufficiently hardened RC member. The total crack width calculated by the method agreed well with the observed data. The investigation results implied that crack development might be due to compressive deformation caused by drying creep and due to shirinkage of concrete between cracks. It was also implied that this girder might have larger crack width if it had been loaded at 28 days.
