Plate buckling prevention is a key to enhance aseismic performance of existing steel bridge structures. Installation effects of bolted L-shaped member to thin steel plate are revealed almost equivalent to those of welded stiffener based on experimental results. However, strengthening effects by the L-shape member are not so often evaluated. Then investigated in this study is strengthening effects of the bolted L-shaped member through FEM analysis by referring to compression test results. It is clarified that the strengthening effects installing the L-shaped members to the plate can be evaluated by the analysis precisely. Fundamental knowledge of design items, like the shape of the L-shaped member, tightening axial bolts force etc. on the strengthening effects can be evaluated through the analysis.
