Abstract

In this paper, the required bond length and the energy release rate of the butted steel plate connected by CFRP subjected to uniaxial load considering the shear deformation of CFRP were evaluated with a comparison of previous studies. It was shown that the required bonded length in the previous studies is the safety side for the repair of the crack and the proposed one is shorter than it. As a result of FE analysis, the energy release rate at the butted end is larger when considering the property of CFRP with the orthotropic material than that considering with isotropic material. Additionally, the method for calculating the energy release rate considering the shear deformation of CFRP by converting one CFRP into multiple layers of thin CFRP and adhesive was proposed.
