Currently, when analyzing steel bridges as a whole or in part, the member joints of gusset plates are ignored, and the members are connected in a very simple manner, such as pins or rigid connections. This study focused on gusset plates with twosided lap joints frictional connected by high-strength bolts. Through experiments applying compressive forces and detailed FE analysis, we investigated loadcarrying behaviors such as slippage and buckling. Additionally, we constructed a simplified analytical model using beam elements and nonlinear spring elements, which can be applied to whole structural analysis of bridges. As a result, the mechanical behavior of the gusset plate, such as sliding and buckling, was reproduced using beam elements and nonlinear springs.
